Chiropractor in Park City : Dr. Tom Shearman
Improving the quality of lives through quality chiropractic care since 1982.
Hello! I was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 19, 1955. I graduated from Creighton Preparatory High School in 1973. I studied civil engineering while attending the University of Wyoming from 1973 to 1974. I transferred to the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1975 to 1976 and studied dietetics and food and nutrition.
Chiropractic Education
I moved to Salt Lake City in 1976, where I worked and attended the University of Utah, studying pre-med and pre-physical therapy. I became friends with a Bountiful, Utah chiropractor during this period and under his guidance realized my interests in exercise, nutrition, and the natural care of the body fell outside traditional western medicine. I applied and was accepted to several chiropractic schools. I began my studies in September, 1979.
I graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri in 1982 and began practicing immediately out of school in St. Louis. I moved back to Salt Lake City in early 1983 where I worked as an associate for a few years to get more experience treating patients in a busy clinic environment. I opened my own office in September, 1985.
I sold my nearly thirty year old practice in Salt Lake City and I’ve opened up a new office in Summit County, where I’ve lived since 1995. The new office is less than a minute off the Jeremy Ranch exit, on Interstate 80
Over the last 31 years of practice I’ve treated thousands of patients for a large assortment of conditions
To help me become a better practitioner I’ve attended over a hundred post graduate seminars and read hundreds of books. I’ve been the team chiropractor for local wrestling teams, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles Hockey and the Salt Lake Gulls professional baseball team. I opened and operated, for eight years, the first chiropractic/medical injury rehabilitation clinic in Utah. I also ran a franchise for five years that specialized in the treatment of golfers and I even wrote a manual on how to market to golfers.
On a Personal Note
I married my wife and best friend, Theresa Ryan, a registered nurse, on a snowy day in November, 1983 in Omaha, Nebraska. It dumped 18 inches of snow that day and my beloved Nebraska Cornhusker football team lost to Oklahoma. It snowed so much across the state of Nebraska that the powers-that-be closed Interstate 80. Theresa and I needed to catch a plane in Salt Lake on Monday morning but we were unable to drive back because of the closed road. That plane was supposed to take us to Hawaii for our honeymoon.
My son, Andy, was born on July 6, 1987. He’s currently working and studying to become a chef. My daughter, Ali, was born on November 1, 1990. She’s currently enrolled at the University of Utah and is studying geology and environmental sciences. ***Both of our children are the light of our lives and the reason we do what we do every day***.
I love sports of all kind especially individual sports like golf, racquetball and squash, which I still play. I competed in bodybuilding contests in the early eighties and still lift on a regular basis to help with the inevitable loss of muscle mass that occurs with age. I get chiropractic adjustments weekly from my good friend, Dr. Dan, and like many of you, I have to constantly fight the bulge that wants to accumulate around my middle. I completely agree with whoever it was that said, “Getting old isn’t for wussies.”
